Events in Durham From 31st August – 6th September 2026

As September begins, you’ll find a varied collection of events in Durham this week, offering different ways to experience the city. Whether you’re looking for things to do in Durham this week that involve exploring local markets or enjoying musical performances, you have options that reflect a relaxed pace. Consider utilising the Cathedral Bus, Route 40, to access events easily, or the Park and Ride facilities if driving. You can anticipate a week that presents a diverse agenda, allowing you to choose how you wish to spend your time. The early part of the week offers opportunities for those who appreciate detailed craftsmanship and historical design, with a focus on automotive heritage. You’ll have the chance to observe a range of classic vehicles, thoughtfully presented for public viewing, an activity that creates a unique atmosphere in a familiar city space. Reflect on Durham’s industrial past as you examine these vehicles, a legacy rooted in the county’s coal mining history. Beyond this, you’ll also notice specific initiatives geared towards the university community. These activities facilitate connections and engagement for student groups as they begin a new academic term, helping to foster a sense of belonging among new and returning students. The Durham bus station serves as a key point for student arrivals and departures, and many events are designed to welcome them to the city. Looking towards the latter part of the week, you can seek out evening entertainment with contemporary music. An event provides a selection of house genres, designed for those who prefer a more dynamic atmosphere. With a moderate nightlife intensity, Durham offers a range of bars and pubs alongside these focused musical offerings. Remember to plan your journey, particularly if arriving by train during peak hours, as congestion can occur at the station. You will find opportunities to connect with local culture, whether through daylight explorations or later in the week with more focused musical offerings. Check the listings below for further details. Remember that river cruises and rowing events may cause congestion on the riverbanks, and the road section at the end of the Low Force to High Force walk requires caution.
